Photo Session Tips For The Nervous Subject: Senior Girls
While a lot of teenage girls get excited about their senior photo session, not everyone shares the same enthusiasm about having their picture taken by a professional photographer, especially when its in a new setting. Over the years we have picked up on some helpful tips for upcoming high school senior girls when it comes to a smooth session if you're nervous or have never had your photo taken before. Here are a few of them (don't worry boys you're next).
1. Stress-Free Environment
Making sure you're in a stress free environment is the key to getting those relaxed and natural looking images you see and long for. This will be different for everyone and what works for you, works for you! Maybe you want to bring your parents so you feel comfortable, or maybe you don't want to bring your parents and want to bring a friend instead. You won't want to bring an entourage of people to your senior photo session, especially when its located in the studio to avoid the area feeling overcrowded, however many people feel most confident bringing someone with them. Maybe you want to listen to music during the session to help you relax and get more in tune with posing. There are so many little things you can do to have an easy going and fun shoot that work in different ways for everyone!
2. Hair And Makeup
For girls, we recommend having hair and makeup done by an artist so that it looks the best it can in photos. We are happy to have that provided to you in the studio for an additional cost. Makeup done for portraits is different than the makeup you wear everyday. For a girls senior portrait session, having on higher coverage makeup than usual is recommended because it allows your skin tone to appear even in the photos. Even if you don't wear makeup at all, just a little concealer and mascara can make a world of a difference in a portrait! Don't be discouraged if you don't want to wear any makeup at all, it's all up to you and your personal preference and what makes you feel good!
3. Be An Individual
Maybe you're worried because everyone else has pictures of them in their high school sport/club attire but you don't play a high school sport and instead take private music lessons, or you're on a dance team etc. Bringing something to show who you really are to your session can you make you more excited and feel more comfortable during your shoot. We did a portrait for a senior girl at Starbucks once because she worked there throughout high school and wanted to document it, and we LOVED it!
Everyone has things that can make them feel more confident! Your senior photo session is for YOU to remember and look back on so we want to help make it an easy going and fun experience!
